📖 SPECIFICATIONS — read the book before the plans: it governs
The spec names the cable the drawings only imply, the quantity modifiers a drawing never shows (spare capacity, spare devices),
and the labour drivers that decide whether a bid is profitable — prevailing wage, plenum rating, conduit pathway, test-and-certify,
a warranty that needs a certified installer. Load it here and you get a one-page review with every clause quoted and page-referenced,
and the cable types it finds become the pick list on the takeoff's cable column — so each device is priced with the cable the
contract names, not one inferred from a legend description. This is a finder, not an interpreter. It locates and quotes; you decide. Nothing is applied to a takeoff except that pick list.
No specification loaded — the takeoff works without one, but the cable column will fall back to a guess from the legend text.
2 · Click + Add device type (or just click the plan — a type is created for you) and name it.
3 ·CLICK every device on the sheet — each click drops a pin in that type's color and counts it.
4 · Clicked a wrong spot? Click the pin again to remove it (or Ctrl+Z).
5 ·◀ ▶ through the sheets — the tally sums the whole set. Keys 1–9 switch the active type. Or press ⚡ Auto takeoff: the program finds the legend sheet by its printed heading, loads every legend symbol with its description, counts them across the whole set and shows the totals — then you review the pins.
Or count from the legend by hand: open the legend sheet, press 🎯 Pick symbol from legend, then click each legend symbol (or drag a box around it) —
it's named from the legend text, gets its own pin color, and is auto-counted on every other sheet as pins you can review and fix; the legend sheet stays out of the totals.
When you've picked every symbol you need, press 🚀 Start counting for a fresh count of everything and the final per-sheet + whole-set report, then ⬇ Export Excel.

PER-SHEET BREAKDOWN
📏 CABLE TAKEOFF — measures every approved pin back to its head-end and totals the cable by type
1 · Press 📐 Read sheet scales — the printed scale (1/8" = 1'-0", 1:100) is read from each sheet's own text.
Sheets with no printed scale: open one and press 🚪 Calibrate by door, then drag across a door opening — a frame is 36" wide.
2 · Press 🏠 Set head-end and click the MDF / IDF / FACP. A floor with no closet of its own pulls to the point directly above or below the one that has it, plus a riser allowance — so one head-end can serve a whole set.
3 · Give each device type its cable (a guess is filled in from the description — overwrite it).
4 · Press 📏 Run cable takeoff. Each run is pulled 90° from the device to the pathway and along it to the nearest closet — the number is only as good as the head-ends you placed.

Companion to MyKyah's Verify-on-Plan. Every count is a visible pin: pin devices by hand, or pick symbols off the legend sheet and let template matching pre-pin them on every other sheet — then review, remove the wrong ones and click the missed ones, so the final count is still human-verified. The legend sheet is excluded from matching and from the Excel totals. Use 🚫 Ignore zone to box out the title block or per-sheet symbol key so it's never auto-counted — one box applies to every sheet. Pins live per sheet; the tally sums across the set. Sessions autosave in this browser per plan file and can be saved/loaded as JSON for hand-off. Nothing you load is uploaded.
